The Treatment Of Bacterial Vaginosis – Why Natural Methods Don’t Work And What To Do About It

Most women who use natural methods in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis, do NOT succeed.

If you have tried a natural remedy before you may have gotten some benefit from using it. Heck you might even have been quite impressed by the results.

But can you honestly say that after one course of this natural remedy your bacterial vaginosis was gone forever and you never had to worry about BV again?

Isn't that your goal? Shouldn't you be searching for that treatment that will end your BV worries for good?

Well the truth is that although it IS possible to cure your BV permanently, there is no such thing as one single natural remedy that will do the job all by itself.

The secret lies in using a systematic approach, which involves making small lifestyle changes and using a combination of different natural remedies, with one remedy having a different mode of action from the other.

Yet I see women taking the wrong approach all the time. They'll come across a natural BV remedy that takes the edge off their BV for a few days or even for a few weeks.

Women will swear by these treatments, even though they have to keep using them on a regular basis to keep their BV away. They haven't achieved what they set out to achieve in the first place – a permanent treatment of bacterial vaginosis, one that will get rid of BV once and for all so they never have to worry about BV again.

The good news is when you DO take the effort to really learn about the methods that work, you CAN treat your bacterial vaginosis permanently, so BV does NOT become a part of your life and you can finally put it all behind you.

The permanent treatment of bacterial vaginosis in 3 simple steps

Step #1: Identify And Address The Cause

This is a crucial step that a lot of women miss out on. Why is it that you are affected by BV now but you weren't before?

The truth is that your BV was caused by a specific change in your body. This change can be extremely subtle, like a small chemical imbalance caused by a very specific nutritional deficiency.

The permanent treatment of bacterial vaginosis requires that you first identify the root cause of your BV and address this cause.

It doesn't matter what treatment you go on to use, if you haven't addressed the root cause of your BV, then your symptoms will always come back.

The list of possible causes for BV is almost endless. Here are a list of the more common causes:

1. Douching

This is a very common cause of BV. Regular douching upsets the vaginal flora and damages the natural chemical balance inside the vagina.

You may be aware that douching can be used in treating bacterial vaginosis, but there's a way and a method of doing this, that involves using a short-course therapy with specific natural chemicals, rather than regular douching using soaps or antibacterials.

2. A weakening of the immune system

This can be caused by medical conditions such as HIV or even the common cold. It can also result from something as seemingly small as stress, lack of sleep or dietary deficiencies (very common).

3. Diet composition

Did you know that BV is far more common in women with a high dietary fat intake? There are a whole range of different dietary practices that can leave you prone to BV, and yet other dietary practices that can even help cure BV.

4. Unprotected sex, especially with multiple partners

Semen is alkaline in nature, while the normal healthy vagina is acidic. Semen hence changes the vaginal environment in a way that causes good bacteria to die and bad bacteria to thrive, hence resulting in BV.

This is why the symptoms of BV are usually at their worst just after sex.

Step #2: Kill The Overgrown Bacteria

If you do just step #1 and eliminate the cause, over time your bacterial vaginosis is likely to go away on its own. But if you don't want to wait, and you want to be as sure as you possibly can that your BV will go away, then another action step is necessary.

There are a number of different ways you can get rid of the overgrown vaginal bacteria in BV. These include using antibiotics from your doctor, natural bactericidal agents such as garlic and tea tree oil, acidifying agents and different types of douches.

One method I recommend is using a hydrogen peroxide douche. Hydrogen peroxide is a substance that is naturally present in every healthy vagina. It is normally produced by a strain of good bacteria inside your vagina.

The reason hydrogen peroxide is so effective in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis, is that unlike antibiotics, it does not kill the good bacteria, but only kills the bad bacteria inside your vagina. Most women who use hydrogen peroxide report almost immediate results, with fishy smells disappearing within seconds!

But don't fall into the trap of using hydrogen peroxide on its own. If you don't use it in combination with step#1 and step#3 to follow, this method is unlikely to give you lasting results.

Step #3: Replace The Good Lactobacilli Bacteria Inside Your Vagina

After you have cleared the vagina out of all the bad bacteria, you need to help the vagina in replacing all the lost good bacteria. It is the good bacteria, (called 'lactobacilli') that police the vagina by releasing good chemicals to keep the bad bacteria in check. These little guys are responsible for keeping the vagina in a balanced state of healthy equilibrium.

For this I suggest you either take acidophilus pills or yogurts containing live strains of good bacteria. You can either take these orally or apply them directly inside the vagina.

Scientific studies on the treatment of bacterial vaginosis involving large groups of women have found that the oral route gives more lasting and long term results. The direct vaginal approach on the other hand, produces results quicker than the oral route. You can try one or the other, and there is no harm in using both approaches at the same time.

So just to summarize and conclude…

Too many women use just step #2 or step #3 on its own and hope that their BV will go away. Those who combine step #2 with step #3 see far better results, but without adding step #1 into the mix by identifying and addressing all the possible causes of their BV, then their symptoms will always eventually return.

The above steps used together in the right way will significantly improve your chances of getting rid of your BV permanently. To find out how to apply these steps in detail, click the following link to visit Home Remedies for Bacterial Vaginosis
